Russian ambassador warns Norway about NATO cooperation
The Russian ambassador to Norway, Nikolaj Podgornov, has made strong statements regarding Norway's relationship with NATO. He believes that Norway is increasingly functioning as a base for the alliance's operations directed at Russia.
Kortsjunov claims that Norwegian policy entails a serious risk to security in the High North. According to the ambassador, the close military cooperation with NATO leads to increased tension between the two neighboring countries.
Norwegian authorities have previously emphasized that NATO membership is a defensive alliance. The goal of the cooperation is to ensure stability and security for Norway and the other member countries of the alliance.
The situation in the High North has been characterized by a more strained relationship between Russia and Western countries in recent years. The ambassador's statement is now being followed closely by political experts who are assessing how this affects the diplomatic relationship between Oslo and Moscow.
