Researchers investigate how drought affects Norway
Researchers at Forskning.no have started a new project to understand the consequences of drought in Norway. They want to take a closer look at how climate change is affecting our country by analyzing data from the last 18 years.
The project involves linking media reports from the period 2000 to 2018 with actual drought indices. By comparing what newspapers wrote about drought with measurements of water levels and precipitation, the researchers hope to get a better picture of how periods of drought have affected Norwegian society.
Norway is often known for having a lot of rain, but drought can still create major challenges for agriculture, power production, and nature alike. By looking at historical data, researchers can learn more about how we can best prepare for similar situations in the future.
The results from the study will provide us with more knowledge about the connection between climate and societal development. This is important information for both politicians and citizens who want to understand how the climate in Norway is changing over time.
