Norwegian influencer spreads positive content about Russia
A Norwegian man named Rudi Ripnes has for several years shared videos on social media in which he promotes a positive image of Russia. Through his channels, he shows support for the country while simultaneously expressing criticism of the international sanctions imposed on Russian authorities.
Ripnes has received a great deal of attention for his content, in which he, among other things, praises Russian culture and society. His videos stand in stark contrast to official Norwegian policy and the strict restrictions that Norway and other Western countries have introduced following the invasion of Ukraine.
Experts on disinformation point out that such channels can be used as part of a larger influence operation. By spreading content that challenges the established worldview, influencers like Ripnes can contribute to creating uncertainty and division in the public debate in Norway.
The case has sparked a debate about freedom of expression and responsibility on social media. While Ripnes himself claims that he is only sharing his own experiences, critics believe his content functions as propaganda for a foreign state. It is currently unclear whether his activities will result in any consequences from Norwegian authorities.
