Energy company Kinect receives daily fines from authorities
The Norwegian Energy Regulatory Authority (RME) has decided to impose daily fines on the energy company Kinect. This occurs despite the fact that the company chose to sell its entire portfolio of Nordic power customers to the company Å Entelios last year.
Daily fines are a financial sanction used when a company fails to comply with orders from the authorities. RME oversees participants in the Norwegian power market to ensure that laws and regulations are followed. When a company is subject to daily fines, it means they must pay a fixed amount for each day that passes until they have rectified the issues identified by the authorities.
Even though Kinect no longer has power customers in the Nordic region, this does not mean they are exempt from obligations to the authorities. Companies that have operated in the power market may still have outstanding cases or claims related to their previous activities. RME has not provided detailed information regarding the specific reason for the fines in this case, but emphasizes that supervisory activity is important for market confidence.
The case shows that the authorities are closely monitoring participants in the energy sector, even after they have changed their business model or sold parts of their operations. It is currently unclear how Kinect will respond to the daily fines and whether the company will issue a statement on the matter in the near future.
