Proposal: Norway should invest 500 billion in artificial intelligence
BI Norwegian Business School is now proposing that Norway take a leading role in the development of artificial intelligence (AI) in Europe. The proposal entails the state setting aside 500 billion kroner from the Government Pension Fund Global for a dedicated fund to support European technology development.
The background for the proposal is concern over Europe's dependence on American and Chinese technology companies. Experts believe that a country unable to develop its own technology risks losing both economic freedom of action and democratic control in the future.
By investing a significant sum in a specialized AI fund, the hope is to strengthen Europe's ability to compete globally. The goal is for Europe to become more self-reliant and capable of creating solutions that are adapted to European values and needs.
No political decision has been made regarding the proposal as of yet. The discussion on how the Government Pension Fund Global should be used to secure Norway's future competitiveness is expected to continue in the time ahead.
