New study: Safer cars reduce the risk of serious traffic injuries
A recent study shows very positive results for traffic safety. Research indicates that the risk of serious injuries in car accidents has been significantly reduced in recent years. For women, the figures show a decrease in the risk of serious traffic injuries of almost 90 percent compared to older models.
This development is largely due to better technology in modern cars. New safety systems, such as automatic emergency braking, lane departure warnings, and more advanced airbags, play a crucial role. In addition, car manufacturers have improved the bodywork to absorb more energy in the event of a collision.
Experts point out that cars today are built to protect passengers in a completely different way than before. Previously, safety tests were often based on average male dummies, which could provide a skewed picture of safety for women. Now, testing methods are more inclusive, which has led to cars providing better protection for everyone, regardless of gender and size.
Although technology has improved significantly, the Norwegian Public Roads Administration emphasizes that driver behavior remains the most important factor for traffic safety. Speed, inattention, and intoxication are still the main causes of accidents on Norwegian roads. Modern technology therefore works best as a supplement to a responsible driver.
The conclusion of the study is encouraging for traffic safety work in Norway. With increasingly safer vehicles on the roads, the goal of fewer deaths and serious injuries in traffic is more achievable than ever. Nevertheless, it is important that motorists continue to remain alert and follow traffic rules when they are on the road.
