Norwegian leaders use a lot of artificial intelligence, but create little themselves
A new report from Forte shows that Norwegian companies have adopted artificial intelligence (AI) at a rapid pace. A full 68 percent of Norwegian leaders state that they use AI tools either daily or weekly in their work.
Despite the high level of usage, the report points to a clear paradox. Although Norwegian businesses are adept at adopting existing technology, they are less active when it comes to developing their own AI solutions. Norway is therefore lagging behind when it comes to creating new technology in this field.
Experts believe that this trend could have consequences for Norwegian competitiveness in the future. If Norwegian companies rely solely on tools developed abroad, they may miss out on opportunities to adapt the technology to Norwegian needs and specific industries.
It is currently unclear what the reason is for Norwegian companies choosing to buy ready-made solutions rather than developing their own. The report suggests that a lack of expertise or high development costs may be some of the reasons why Norway is currently a consumer of AI, rather than a producer.
The findings in the report provide an important contribution to the debate about Norway's digital future. The question going forward will be whether Norwegian businesses will manage to transition from being passive users to becoming active creators of artificial intelligence.
