New research to make CO2 capture more efficient

Researchers at SINTEF are currently working on developing new technology for the capture, transport, and storage of CO2, also known as CCS. The goal of the project is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from industry by making the technology both cheaper and more scalable for the future.

One of the biggest challenges with current CO2 capture is that the processes require a great deal of energy. SINTEF is therefore focusing on improving technical solutions so that energy consumption is reduced. This is an important step for companies to be able to adopt the technology on a large scale without it becoming too expensive or complicated.

In addition to the capture process itself, the researchers are looking at how CO2 can be transported and stored in a safe manner. Norway already holds a leading international role when it comes to storing CO2 under the seabed, and new knowledge from SINTEF will help to further strengthen this position.

The work on CCS is a central part of Norway's strategy to reach its climate goals. By developing more efficient processes, the researchers hope that the technology can become a standard solution for industry in both Norway and the rest of the world in the years to come.
