Digital competence among healthcare personnel varies greatly
Digital technology has become a central part of the Norwegian healthcare system. Today, healthcare personnel use digital tools for everything from documenting patient records to communicating with colleagues and patients. This is changing the way healthcare services function in everyday life.
A new survey shows, however, that there are large differences in how skilled healthcare workers are at using this technology. Competence varies significantly based on factors such as age, how often they use digital tools, and the support they receive from their workplace.
The results suggest that younger employees often feel more confident with new digital solutions than their older colleagues. At the same time, the study shows that technical training and organizational support are crucial for all employees to be able to perform their jobs in a good and efficient manner.
For health and social services to function optimally, it is important that all employees have the necessary competence. Leaders in the healthcare sector must therefore consider how they can facilitate better training and more support in the years to come.
Digitalization is here to stay, and it is important that technology becomes an aid rather than a challenge. By investing in competence development, healthcare personnel can spend more time on patients and less time on technical problems.
