Telenor warns: Billions of fraud attempts stopped in Norway
Telenor reports a sharp increase in digital threats against Norwegian mobile users. During the first six months of this year, the company has blocked a total of 1.4 billion attempts at fraud and visits to unsafe websites. This corresponds to an average of 7.7 million blocked attacks every single day.
The company emphasizes that scammers have become significantly more professional in their methods. The attacks now occur at a pace and with a technical quality that makes it harder for the individual user to detect the dangers themselves. Digital threats can come through everything from fake text messages to links that appear to come from well-known entities.
Although the technology for blocking fraud has improved, experts are concerned about the development. The high number of attempts shows that criminal groups are investing heavily in deceiving Norwegians via mobile phones. Telenor is working continuously to update its security systems to protect customers against these attacks.
To avoid falling victim to fraud, all mobile users are encouraged to be extra critical of the links they receive. Even though security filters stop many attempts, it is important to never provide personal information or bank details on websites you are unsure about. By staying alert, one can reduce the risk of being targeted by professional scammers.
