A knife attacker injures three men seriously

The Bahnhofsvorstadt area near the train station in Bremen witnessed a violent stabbing incident on Friday evening that resulted in three men being seriously injured, prompting a large security response.

The incident began at a quarter past ten in the evening when a fight broke out between a 33-year-old man and a group of eight men at Loriotplatz. The man left the scene and returned a few minutes later carrying a knife, attacking the group randomly. The victims tried to resist him and managed to bring him down, but he later fled the scene. The police were able to arrest him at Hillmannplatz after being called.

Three men aged between 22 and 25 sustained serious injuries, one of whom, aged 24, suffered a severe hand injury that required immediate surgery. The other two victims sustained lacerations to their legs and chest. The attacker appeared to be under the influence of drugs and was also taken to the hospital for treatment. Investigations into the crime of 'serious bodily harm' are still ongoing, and a review of his pre-trial detention is currently underway.

In a related context, the Bremen police carried out a comprehensive inspection campaign on Saturday evening in the areas of Bahnhofsquartier, Steintor, and Ostertorviertel. More than 30 people were inspected and knives were confiscated. The police focused on monitoring the weapons ban area and detected several violations of the weapons possession law.

The seizures included knives, defensive sprays, units of cannabis ready for sale, and Ecstasy tablets. Several legal violations were recorded, some under the new cannabis law, and 19 deportation orders were issued from the area. The police also executed two arrest warrants during the campaign. Investigations into these cases are still ongoing.
