UN demands Pakistan halt forced deportation of Afghan refugees
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has demanded that Pakistan immediately halt the forced deportation of Afghan citizens and refugees. The global body stated that the return process for Afghan citizens residing in Pakistan must be voluntary, safe, and dignified.
Since Pakistan's decision to deport foreigners residing illegally in the country, thousands of Afghan citizens have returned to their homeland. Authorities state that this measure was taken to improve national security and the economy; however, human rights organizations have expressed concern over the situation.
According to the United Nations, many Afghan citizens could face risks in their home country if they return. The global body has urged Pakistan to respect international laws and not to send back any individual whose life may be in danger.
The government of Pakistan maintains that it is necessary to prevent terrorist incidents in the country and to control the presence of undocumented individuals. The government has insisted that this action is only being taken against those who do not possess legal residency documents.
The international community is closely monitoring this situation. Discussions between Pakistan and the United Nations are ongoing to find a balance between protecting human rights and enforcing national laws.
