International Cooperation and New Initiatives for Improving Pakistan's Health Sector
The government and international organizations are working together to bring improvements to Pakistan's health sector. According to recent reports, Pakistan is seeking assistance from various countries to modernize its medical facilities and control diseases. The objective is to provide better health facilities to the public and promote the manufacturing of medicines and vaccines within the country.
The roles of Indonesia and China are extremely important in these efforts. Indonesia has assured Pakistan of full cooperation in vaccine production and technical expertise. On the other hand, the Government of Pakistan is striving to expand the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors. This cooperation will make the local production of affordable and high-quality medicines possible in the country.
While international cooperation is increasing on one hand, some serious challenges also exist. According to the recent Economic Survey, Pakistan spends less than one percent of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) on the health sector, which is significantly lower compared to other countries in the region. Additionally, the World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that approximately 140 people die daily due to tuberculosis (TB) in Pakistan, which is a concerning situation.
The use of digital technology has also begun to modernize the health system in various parts of the country. A new digital data system has been introduced in Balochistan to monitor children's health, which will improve the provision of medical facilities in remote areas. However, following reports of the alleged spread of HIV in a Karachi hospital, the court has sought a response from authorities, highlighting the need for oversight in the health system.
Experts state that the correct use of e-health and modern technology can prove to be a solution to Pakistan's medical problems. Although issues such as a lack of infrastructure still exist, investment and profitability in this sector are increasing with the help of institutions like the SIFC. The primary objective of all these initiatives is to provide affordable and quality health facilities to every citizen of Pakistan.
