New Opportunities for Food Security and Economic Development in Pakistan
Pakistan is currently standing at a critical juncture where it faces challenges regarding food security and employment. According to a recent World Bank report, millions of new jobs could be created if Pakistan and other countries in the region adopt the right economic policies. However, the report also warns that if investment is not made in the agricultural sector, the risk of food shortages could increase.
In this situation, Pakistan has begun strengthening its presence at the international level. Pakistan has become a permanent member of the 'International Olive Council' for the first time, which is a major success for the olive industry in the country. Alongside this, Pakistan has also called globally for the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and modern digital technology to increase crop yields and ensure global food security.
On the economic front, hopes for further improvement in trade relations with China have emerged. To expand trade under CPEC, a delegation from South Punjab visited China, where Chinese buyers showed deep interest in Pakistani snacks and other food products. This is expected to create new export opportunities for local manufacturers.
On the other hand, protests against food shortages and inflation have also been witnessed in some parts of the country. Citizens in regions of Azad Kashmir have expressed concern over food supply issues. Experts say that Pakistan needs a comprehensive national agricultural policy to equip agriculture with modern machinery and avoid any major food crisis in the future.
Overall, Pakistan has several paths available to improve its economy. If the government focuses on modern technology, international cooperation, and better agricultural policies, not only can affordable food be provided to the public, but new sources of employment can also be created in the country.
