Global Environmental Performance Ranking: A Look at Pakistan's Situation
According to the recently released global environmental performance report, an improvement has been observed in Pakistan's overall ranking; however, the issue of air quality in the country remains at a concerning level. In this 2024 report, Pakistan has been placed at the 179th position.
According to the report's data, Pakistan has achieved a total of 29.03 points in the Environmental Performance Index. Within this, the environmental health score stood at 14.57, which highlights the challenges faced regarding the provision of a healthy environment in the country.
The most concerning aspect is air quality, in which Pakistan's score remained only 7.54. Experts state that industrial pollution, vehicular emissions, and a lack of trees are the major reasons for this low score. The failure to improve air quality poses a significant threat to the health of citizens.
Environmental experts believe that although there has been a slight improvement in the ranking, immediate and concrete steps are needed to improve air quality. For this, the implementation of policies at the government level and public awareness are extremely essential.
To provide a clean and green environment in the future, Pakistan must adopt global standards for environmental protection. If these issues are brought under control, not only can the country's global ranking improve further, but citizens can also be provided with a healthy and safe environment.
