Sanitation crisis in Pakistan's hospitals: Medical services affected by non-payment of salaries
Sanitation staff in Pakistan's public hospitals have launched a protest against the non-payment of their salaries. Due to not receiving wages for the past three months, the sanitation system in hospitals has collapsed, causing severe difficulties for patients and their families.
According to reports, dozens of sanitary workers employed at the hospitals have stopped working because they have not been compensated for several months. Due to this situation, filth is accumulating in hospital wards, operating theaters, and bathrooms, which has also created a risk of infection spreading.
Hospital administration states that due to a lack of funds, it has not been possible to pay employees on time. On the other hand, the protesting workers demand that their outstanding salaries be paid immediately so they can manage their household expenses and resume work at the hospitals.
This crisis has highlighted administrative negligence in the health sector. Medical experts have warned that if the sanitation situation in hospitals is not improved soon, the health of patients could deteriorate further, and the risk of germs spreading in hospitals will increase.
Immediate steps are required from the government and relevant authorities to resolve this issue. The public and human rights activists have demanded that the rights of the sanitation staff be protected so that the continuity of medical services in hospitals can be maintained.
