New Policies and International Agreements for the Promotion of Sports in Pakistan
The Government of Pakistan has announced the 'National Sports Policy 2026' to improve the sports system in the country. The aim of this new policy is to grant more autonomy to sports federations and improve the fund disbursement system. Alongside this, Pakistan has also introduced its first 'E-sports Policy' to promote video game competitions as a formal industry. These measures are expected to benefit the country's digital economy.
Important news from the cricket field is that Babar Azam has once again been appointed as the captain of Pakistan's Test team. He will lead the team in the upcoming series against the West Indies and England. Additionally, an agreement has been signed between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia to build a new cricket stadium in Jeddah. This project will further strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the sports sector.
Pakistan is also making significant progress in the football sector. According to a recent report, Pakistan's football exports have seen a record increase, now exceeding $251 million. To promote sports at the local level, a football tournament has been launched in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in which 32 clubs are participating. On an international level, Pakistan has gifted one thousand footballs to Bangladesh and has initiated talks for cooperation with the famous Argentine club 'Boca Juniors'.
In other sports, Pakistani wrestler Abid Ali will face Sangram Singh for the Asia Champion title in Malaysia on July 19. On the other hand, the Indian government has decided to allow Pakistani athletes to participate in international competitions held in India; however, the ban on bilateral cricket series between the two countries remains in place.
These new sports policies and increasing international cooperation will create new opportunities for Pakistan's young athletes. Experts believe that these measures will not only raise the standard of sports in the country but also project a positive image of Pakistan globally.
