Indus Waters Treaty: Bilawal Bhutto’s message of ‘peace with dignity’ to India
Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman and former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has issued a fresh warning to India regarding the Indus Waters Treaty. He clarified that Pakistan wants peace with dignity with India, but will not accept any kind of pressure or subservience.
This statement comes in the context of new tensions arising after the attack in Pahalgam on April 22. Bilawal Bhutto stated that the Indus Waters Treaty is an important international agreement for water distribution between the two countries, and its adherence is the responsibility of both nations.
In his address, Bilawal Bhutto emphasized that Pakistan desires peace and stability in the region. However, he warned India that peace does not mean Pakistan will compromise on its rights. According to him, "peace with dignity, not submission" is Pakistan's policy.
The Indus Waters Treaty is of extreme importance to Pakistan in terms of agriculture and the economy. Experts say that any obstruction or violation of this treaty could further deteriorate relations between the two countries, which would directly impact ordinary citizens.
Finally, he reiterated that the solution to all outstanding issues is only possible through dialogue. Pakistan's stance is that respecting international laws and treaties is indispensable for sustainable peace in the region.
