Monsoon rain spell in Pakistan: Alert issued for citizens
A new spell of monsoon rains has begun in various regions of Pakistan, prompting the Meteorological Department to issue a nationwide alert. Heavy rainfall in the federal capital Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and several cities of Punjab has made the weather pleasant; however, there is a risk of water accumulation in low-lying areas.
According to the Meteorological Department, more heavy rains are expected in the upper regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Kashmir over the next few days. Authorities have advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and to exercise caution when near rainwater drains. There is a particular risk of landslides in mountainous areas, and tourists have been advised to remain cautious.
On the other hand, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued instructions to all provincial agencies to remain on high alert. Relief teams have been kept ready to deal with any emergency situation so that immediate assistance can be provided in affected areas. The city administration has also been directed to improve the drainage system so that rainwater does not accumulate on the roads.
While this change in weather has reduced the intensity of the heat, these rains will also prove beneficial for the improvement of crops for farmers. However, authorities have appealed to the public to stay informed about the latest weather situation and follow the instructions of the local administration.
