Flood Preparedness and New Health Agreements in Pakistan
To cope with monsoon floods in Pakistan, the World Health Organization (WHO) has arranged medical aid for 380,000 people, while new health sector agreements worth $850 million have been finalized with China. Additionally, reports of an HIV outbreak among children at a hospital in Karachi have emerged.
The provision of medical supplies by the WHO aims to ensure emergency medical assistance in the event of floods. On the other hand, the agreements with China include 16 contracts for medicines and herbal treatments, which are expected to improve the health sector.
At least 130 people, mostly children, have tested positive for HIV at a government hospital in Karachi. Authorities are investigating the outbreak.
