PM Directs Special Focus on Northwestern Regions for Polio Eradication

The Prime Minister of Pakistan has ordered the intensification of anti-polio efforts in the country's northwestern regions. This decision comes as new polio cases have been reported from some parts of the country. The government's primary objective is to focus on areas where the virus is still present to ensure the complete eradication of this dangerous disease.

According to reports, three polio cases have emerged in Pakistan so far this year. These cases were reported from the Sujawal area of Sindh, and the Bannu and North Waziristan districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It is worth noting that a total of 31 polio cases were recorded last year, i.e., 2025, which is a major cause for concern for health authorities.

The Prime Minister has issued strict instructions to the relevant authorities to focus all their energies on specific locations (hotspots) where the risk of the virus spreading is high. Particular emphasis has been placed on ensuring the access of polio teams to the border districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and improving their security so that no child is left without protective drops.

Health experts state that polio is a crippling disease for which vaccination is the only solution. The campaigns run by the government aim to protect all children under the age of five from polio. In this regard, the cooperation and awareness of parents are of utmost importance.

The Government of Pakistan is committed to eradicating polio in collaboration with international organizations. The Prime Minister reaffirmed this commitment, stating that the campaign will continue until the last polio virus is eliminated from Pakistan. It is hoped that through these new efforts, Pakistan will emerge as a polio-free country in the near future.
