Parliamentary committee expresses concern over poor telecom services in Pakistan
A parliamentary committee in Pakistan has expressed deep concern over the quality of telecom services in the country. The committee stated that the difficulties faced by users regarding internet and calls are unacceptable.
During the committee meeting, members emphasized that the quality of the network across the country is continuously declining. In particular, the slow speed of the internet in remote areas and the increase in call drop incidents are causing severe distress to ordinary citizens and business owners.
Members have also raised questions about the role of the telecom regulator (PTA). The committee suspects that due to an alleged nexus between the regulator and telecom companies, consumer rights are not being protected. Members believe that the lack of strict oversight of companies by the regulator is preventing the improvement of service quality.
Officials have assured the committee that they will review these complaints and compel telecom companies to improve their services. The committee has directed that immediate steps be taken to provide better facilities to consumers so that the obstacles in digital connectivity can be removed.
Further progress on this matter is awaited, as the parliamentary committee has decided to conduct a full investigation into the issue. The public is hopeful that after these measures, the quality of internet and telephone services in the country will improve.
