FIFA World Cup 2026: Several teams advance to the next stage, other key sports news
Following the exciting group stage matches of the FIFA World Cup 2026, several teams have secured their places in the next stage (knockout). Japan, Sweden, Switzerland, Canada, Morocco, and Croatia have advanced to the next round of the tournament by delivering excellent performances. However, the situation remains difficult for some teams, and they are dependent on the results of other matches.
The match between Japan and Sweden ended in a 1-1 draw, resulting in both teams successfully reaching the next stage. On the other hand, Switzerland defeated Canada by two goals to one, but despite this result, both teams remain in the tournament. Croatia also celebrated their victory after beating Panama 1-0. This match was very memorable for star player Luka Modrić as it was his 200th international match for his team.
Some controversies were also witnessed during the tournament. The Ecuador team appeared quite angry over a referee's decision in the match against Germany, which led to bitterness during the game. Meanwhile, England player Eberechi Eze has rejected the criticism following the match against Ghana. The Scotland team is also hopeful of reaching the next stage, but they must now keep an eye on the points and goal differences of other teams.
Important news has also emerged in sports other than football. In the Women's T20 World Cup, India defeated Bangladesh by five wickets, making the race for the semi-finals even more interesting. In the field of cricket, the third and decisive match of the Test series between England and New Zealand is underway, where the England team is trying to make a comeback in the match. Disappointing news for boxing fans is that Floyd Mayweather's bout in Greece has been canceled due to legal reasons.
This week has been very busy and thrilling in the world of sports. Fans are now eagerly waiting for the next stage of the FIFA World Cup and key cricket matches. In the coming days, the matches between Morocco and other teams will determine the direction of the tournament.
