Monsoon Begins in Pakistan: New Challenges for HIV Patients
The monsoon rains have begun in Pakistan, but while they provide relief from the heat, they are also becoming a source of distress for many. This season can prove particularly difficult for individuals living with HIV. In light of experiences from previous years, patients have serious concerns regarding their health.
Last year’s severe floods caused widespread destruction in many parts of the country. During that time, due to road closures and disrupted communication systems, many patients were unable to reach hospitals and specialized treatment centers. For HIV patients, the regular use of their specific medication, known as 'Anti-Retroviral Therapy,' is vital for survival.
According to medical experts, when these patients do not receive their medication on time, their immune systems begin to weaken rapidly. Consequently, they can easily fall prey to other illnesses. During the previous floods, hundreds of patients faced severe medical complications due to a lack of access to medicine, which endangered their lives.
Now that the monsoon season has started once again, there is a sense of fear among patients that they might be deprived of their treatment once more. They are calling on the government and relevant authorities to take emergency measures to ensure the supply of medicines in remote areas. Experts state that better advance planning for difficult circumstances is a pressing need, ensuring that patients' treatment remains uninterrupted in the event of any natural disaster.
