Oil Sanctions on Iran Lifted, New Pipeline, and More

The United States has temporarily lifted oil sanctions on Iran, creating hopes for a reduction in global oil prices and economic stability for Pakistan. A new pipeline has been approved for better energy transmission in Pakistan, while the rising value of the dollar and a slump in the stock market have caused concern among investors.

The United States has temporarily suspended oil sanctions on Iran, allowing Iran to now sell its oil in the global market. This development follows negotiations held in Switzerland, in which Pakistan and Qatar played a mediatory role. According to U.S. Vice President JD Vance, these talks have laid the foundation for a successful final agreement, and a roadmap has been prepared for the next 60 days. This move is expected to reduce regional tensions and stabilize the prices of petroleum products.

The government's investment-related body, the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), has approved the 'White Oil Pipeline' project from Machike to Taru Jabba. This pipeline will serve as a vital means for transporting refined oil (petroleum) from the south to the north of the country. The completion of this project will reduce the pressure of tankers on roads, ensure a secure oil supply, and lower transportation costs, which could benefit general consumers.

With the global value of the dollar reaching a 52-week high and an increase in palm oil prices, edible oil and imported goods are likely to become more expensive in Pakistan. On the other hand, due to political and economic uncertainty, investors at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) sold shares to book profits, leading to a bearish trend in the market. Meanwhile, Iran has announced that it will take over the management of the Strait of Hormuz (a key maritime route for oil trade), which is extremely critical for global trade.
