Karachi Doctors' Protest: Growing Problems in Pakistan's Healthcare System
Doctors working in Karachi's government hospitals have launched a protest in support of their demands. Due to this protest, medical facilities in several of the city's major hospitals are being severely affected. The doctors state that they have not received their salaries for several months, making it difficult for them to fulfill their professional responsibilities.
The protesting doctors mentioned that the issue in hospitals is not limited to salaries; there is also a severe shortage of basic medicines. Patients are not receiving the necessary medications for their treatment, which is creating difficulties for doctors in providing care. Additionally, the doctors expressed deep concern over harassment at the workplace and inadequate security arrangements.
This situation is most heavily impacting ordinary citizens who cannot afford the high costs of private hospitals. Although work continues in the emergency wards of the hospitals, there are delays in the Outpatient Department (OPD) and scheduled surgeries. Patients and their relatives coming from remote areas are facing severe hardships at the hospitals.
Medical experts say that if the government does not resolve these issues immediately, the country's healthcare system could fall into a further crisis. Doctors' organizations have demanded a permanent solution to their financial and administrative problems so that they can perform their duties without any fear or pressure and provide better medical facilities to the public.
