'Political obstacles' hindering Pakistani content's access to Netflix: Mehreen Jabbar
Renowned Pakistani film and drama director Mehreen Jabbar recently shed light on the challenges facing the Pakistani media industry during an interview. She expressed concern over why Pakistani dramas and films are unable to find a place on major international streaming platforms like Netflix. According to her, the primary reason for this is not a lack of talent, but rather 'political reasons.'
Mehreen Jabbar stated that Pakistan possesses excellent stories and talented artists capable of producing world-class work. However, when it comes to agreements with international platforms, political circumstances and regional relations often stand in the way. She believes that because of these reasons, Pakistani content is not receiving the global recognition it deserves.
The director further added that content from other countries, especially neighboring ones, is abundantly available on platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime. In contrast, Pakistani producers face severe difficulties in getting their work onto these platforms. She remarked that due to these obstacles, Pakistani culture and stories are failing to reach audiences worldwide.
Regarding a solution to this situation, Mehreen Jabbar emphasized that the Pakistani media industry needs to unite. She stated that individual efforts alone are not enough; rather, cooperation is also required at the government level to make the access of Pakistani content to global markets possible.
