New Health Reforms and Launch of Polio Campaign in Pakistan

The government in Pakistan has intensified its efforts to eradicate polio. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed the commitment that the complete eradication of polio from the country is the government's top priority. In this regard, a week-long polio campaign has been launched in Karachi, the capital of Sindh province, with a target set to administer polio drops to more than 2.5 million children.

In this fight against polio, teams are now reaching remote areas and nomadic families. Health department officials are visiting mountainous regions and temporary camps to provide vaccines to children who are often missed by the campaign due to migration. Following the emergence of polio cases this year in areas such as Bannu, North Waziristan, and Sujawal, special attention is being given to these locations to prevent the spread of the virus.

The government has taken another significant step to curb the spread of diseases. From January 1st, a ban has been imposed on the manufacturing and sale of specific types of syringes in the country to control the spread of dangerous diseases like HIV and Hepatitis. On the other hand, taking strict notice of reports regarding the alleged spread of HIV in a Karachi hospital, the court has summoned a report from the relevant authorities.

To modernize the healthcare system, a digital data system related to maternal and child health has been introduced in Balochistan. With the help of this system, patient records in hospitals can be maintained more effectively. However, doctors in Karachi have also protested against the non-payment of salaries and the shortage of medicines, which highlights some of the challenges existing within the country's healthcare system.

Overall, government and international organizations are working together to improve the public health system in Pakistan and prevent dangerous diseases. The primary objective of these efforts is to provide healthcare facilities to every child in the country and ensure a healthy and safe future for coming generations.
