Pakistan Railways' financial losses exceed 61 billion rupees
Pakistan Railways is currently facing a severe financial crisis, and the institution's overall losses have increased to an alarming extent. According to a recent report, Pakistan Railways' losses have risen to 61 billion rupees. This situation has raised several questions regarding the institution's financial condition and administrative performance.
The report for the year 2024-25 issued by the Auditor General of Pakistan has revealed that irregularities worth 11.25 billion rupees have been found in the railway's financial affairs. According to the report, the major reasons for these irregularities include the improper use of funds and a lack of transparency in the accounting system.
Experts state that these increasing losses are directly impacting railway services. Passengers face difficulties due to delays in train arrivals and departures and a lack of facilities at stations. Due to the shortage of financial resources, several railway development projects are also suffering from delays.
The biggest challenge for the government and railway administration now is to pull the institution out of this deficit. The report suggests that strict measures are needed to improve financial transparency and curb corruption. If timely reforms are not implemented, the railway system could deteriorate further.
Pakistan Railways is a major source of affordable transportation in the country; therefore, its restoration is extremely vital for the public interest. In the coming times, it will be important to see what practical steps the government takes to put this historic institution back on its feet.
