Monsoon rains continue in Pakistan, death toll reaches 122
Heavy monsoon rains continue to lash various parts of Pakistan, resulting in the loss of 122 lives across the country so far. The Meteorological Department has warned that more rain is expected in the coming days, raising concerns about potential flooding in low-lying areas.
The most affected regions include parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, where torrential rains have led to incidents of roof collapses and damaged roads. Rescue agencies and local administrations are conducting relief operations in the affected areas to relocate people to safer places.
The government has directed all relevant departments to remain on high alert. According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the damage caused by the rains is being assessed, and measures are being taken to provide immediate medical aid and rations to the victims.
Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and to exercise caution near rainwater drains. In view of the risk of landslides in mountainous areas, the Meteorological Department has also advised tourists to remain cautious.
Following forecasts of further rain in the future, district administrations have established control rooms to deal with emergency situations. The government has appealed to the public to keep an eye on the weather situation and follow official instructions.
