Decline in Pakistan's Exports: Failure to Achieve Annual Target
The Government of Pakistan has released new export figures for the fiscal year 2025-26. According to the report, Pakistan failed to achieve the set export target this year. This situation has sparked a new debate regarding the country's economic growth and foreign exchange reserves.
According to official data, Pakistan's total exports stood at $30.1 billion, which is $5.2 billion less than the set target. Experts state that the export sector struggled to improve its performance due to price fluctuations in the global market and an increase in production costs at the local level.
On the other hand, a continuous increase is being observed in the country's imports. During this fiscal year, Pakistan's total imports have reached $69.6 billion. This large gap between imports and exports has led to an increase in the country's trade deficit, which could prove to be a major challenge for the national economy.
Economic experts believe that the government needs to take immediate and concrete steps to increase exports. If local industries are provided with cheap electricity and other facilities, Pakistani products can compete better in the global market. At the same time, exploring new international markets is also a critical need of the hour to reduce the trade deficit in the future.
