Violent clashes between protesters and police at Plaza 5 de Mayo
This Wednesday afternoon, Plaza 5 de Mayo became the scene of intense clashes between groups of protesters and the national police. The situation created great tension in the city center, as protests across the country continue to increase in intensity.
During the disturbances, riot control units used tear gas to try to disperse the crowd occupying the area. For their part, some protesters responded by throwing objects and fireworks, locally known as "bombitas," at the security agents blocking the way.
Authorities reported that several people were detained during the day of protests. The atmosphere in and around the plaza was chaotic for several hours, which severely affected vehicle traffic and local business activity. Many citizens passing through the area had to seek shelter to avoid the effects of the tear gas.
Currently, demonstrations continue at various strategic points across the country. While social groups persist with their demands, authorities have called for calm among the population to avoid further violent incidents. It is expected that in the coming days, solutions will be sought through dialogue to normalize the national situation.
