Heavy clashes and arrests at Plaza 5 de Mayo during protests
On Wednesday afternoon, Plaza 5 de Mayo became the scene of intense clashes between groups of protesters and crowd control units. The situation escalated quickly as protests continue to increase in different parts of the country.
During the day, riot police used tear gas to try to disperse the crowd in the area. For their part, some protesters responded by throwing objects and fireworks, locally known as "bombitas," which created an atmosphere of great tension and confusion among those present.
As a result of these incidents, authorities reported several people detained. The clashes affected not only the protest participants but also vehicular traffic and nearby businesses, which had to close their doors for safety in the face of the advancing riots.
Despite the police intervention, social discontent remains and demonstrations are expected to continue in the coming days. Local authorities have called for calm from the population, while organized groups ensure they will remain in the streets to make their demands heard.
