Fuel registration and national dialogue today & more
Panama is experiencing a key day with the start of a national dialogue to halt protests and the opening of registration for fuel subsidies. While solutions to the high cost of living are being sought, transportation to the interior remains affected and pockets of tension persist in the capital.
You can now access the registration form for "Solidarity Fuel" to receive the economic benefit on your gasoline bills. Luis Oliva, director of the Government Innovation Authority (AIG), explained that citizens must complete their information on the official platform to enable this state support intended to alleviate drivers' expenses.
Take precautions if you need to travel, as transport routes from the Albrook Terminal to the interior, especially toward Chiriquí, remain paralyzed due to road closures. The security situation is delicate following yesterday's clashes at Plaza 5 de Mayo, where police used tear gas against protesters, resulting in several arrests. The United Nations has urged the Government to seek urgent solutions in the face of the intensification of these protests.
Today, Thursday, at 3:00 p.m., a dialogue table will be established at the City of Knowledge (a complex of educational and scientific institutions in the capital) with the mediation of the Catholic Church. The Government will meet with organized groups and associations to try to reach agreements that allow for the restoration of calm in the country.
