Clashes and Arrests at Plaza 5 de Mayo During New Protests
This Wednesday afternoon, Plaza 5 de Mayo became the scene of violent clashes between groups of protesters and security forces. The situation in this central area has been tense due to the increase in social protests in recent days.
During the day, crowd control units, known as riot police, intervened to try to disperse the crowd. Officers used tear gas, while some protesters responded by throwing fireworks and other objects, creating moments of great confusion and danger.
As a result of these incidents, authorities reported the arrest of several people involved in the riots. The use of gas affected not only the march participants but also pedestrians and merchants who were in the vicinity of the plaza at that time.
Many local businesses had to close their doors early to protect their employees and customers from the smoke and the noise of the detonations. The police presence remained reinforced for several hours to prevent the clashes from spreading to other nearby streets.
Finally, the atmosphere in the city remains one of uncertainty as the demonstrations continue. Authorities have called for calm among the population, although organized groups ensure they will maintain their protest actions in the coming days until they receive answers to their demands.
