Violent clashes between protesters and police at Plaza 5 de Mayo
This Wednesday afternoon, Plaza 5 de Mayo became the scene of intense clashes. Groups of protesters and police crowd control units met in this central area, generating moments of great tension and chaos in the city.
The situation grew complicated when protesters began throwing objects and pyrotechnics, locally known as "bombitas." In response, riot police used tear gas to try to disperse the crowd in the vicinity of the plaza and nearby streets.
As a result of these disturbances, authorities reported several people detained. The smoke from the tear gas affected not only the protest participants but also pedestrians and shopkeepers who were in this busy commercial area at the time.
These demonstrations are part of a series of protests that have been increasing over the last few days. Citizens are expressing their discontent over various social and political issues, which has led to a notable increase in police presence at strategic points in the capital.
At the end of the day, calm slowly returned to Plaza 5 de Mayo, although the general atmosphere remains tense. Authorities have asked the population to avoid conflict zones, while organizing groups ensure that the mobilizations will continue throughout the rest of the week.
