Clashes and arrests at Plaza 5 de Mayo during a day of protests
This Wednesday afternoon, Plaza 5 de Mayo became the scene of violent clashes between groups of protesters and the national police. The protests, which have been increasing in recent days, ended with the use of tear gas and several people detained by the authorities.
The disturbances began when riot police attempted to disperse the crowd in the area. According to official reports, some protesters used pyrotechnics and other objects, while the police responded with tear gas canisters to try to regain control of the site. The atmosphere in the city center was very tense for several hours.
These demonstrations are part of a series of mobilizations that have grown recently in the country. Citizens are expressing their dissatisfaction with various social and economic issues, which has led to an increased police presence at strategic points in the capital to prevent the closure of main roads.
As a result of the incidents, several people were arrested and taken to the corresponding authorities. Although the exact number of injured has not yet been confirmed, emergency services were present to treat those affected by the gas and small explosive devices.
The mobilizations are expected to continue for the rest of the week. Meanwhile, various civil organizations have called for calm and are asking for a peaceful dialogue to be established to prevent a recurrence of these acts of violence in the city streets.
