San Marcos University announces dialogue with students to resolve the crisis
The National University of San Marcos (UNMSM) has announced the start of a dialogue process with its students. This decision comes after two weeks of protests and the takeover of university facilities by the students. The main objective of this measure is to resolve internal conflicts and allow academic activities to return to normal as soon as possible.
The opening of these talks has been possible thanks to the intervention of the Ombudsman's Office. This institution has acted as a mediator to facilitate the rapprochement between university authorities and student representatives. The participation of this body seeks to ensure that the negotiation process is fair and transparent for all parties involved.
During the last fifteen days, the university has faced a complicated situation due to the campus takeover. Students are demanding improvements in various aspects of the institution's administrative and academic management. Due to this protest, classes and administrative work have been suspended, affecting thousands of students and teachers in the San Marcos community.
Authorities reported that the dialogue meetings will formally begin to address the demands of the young people. It is expected that, through negotiation, agreements will be reached that benefit the students and ensure the stability of the university. The full restoration of activities is the current priority for the oldest educational institution in the Americas.
