Political debates, electoral changes, and scientific breakthroughs mark current events in Peru
In the economic and political sphere, Pedro Francke, representative of the Juntos por el Perú party, presented his main proposals for the future of the country. Francke assured that, if they reach government, there will be no nationalizations and the autonomy of the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) will be strictly respected. Furthermore, he expressed his intention to ask Julio Velarde to continue leading said institution. On the other hand, the economist announced that they plan to repeal eight laws they consider "pro-crime," which were previously approved by the Fujimorist bloc, arguing that these regulations facilitate extortion and harm entrepreneurs.
Political tension increased considerably during the recent technical debates. José Recoba, from the Fuerza Popular party, received a warning from the moderator after showing a photograph of Pedro Castillo during his speech, an act that was considered outside the established rules. In the same event, Ernesto Zunini, from Juntos por el Perú, had a heated exchange of words with Congresswoman Rosangella Barbarán. Zunini harshly criticized the Fujimorism record regarding youth policies, pointing out that thousands of young people lost opportunities to obtain scholarships in the past.
Regarding the upcoming democratic processes, the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) announced important changes for the second round of the 2026 Elections. The institution decided to relocate 136 voting centers that previously operated in parks or open spaces. From now on, citizens will cast their votes in closed public institutions, a measure that seeks to guarantee greater security and better conditions for voters during the election day.
In the education sector, progress is reported in solving the crisis at the National University of San Marcos (UNMSM). Following the intervention of the Ombudsman's Office, university authorities announced the start of a dialogue process with the students. This measure aims to resolve the conflicts that led to the takeover of the campus two weeks ago and allow academic and administrative activities to be restored normally as soon as possible.
In the field of science and history, a new study has revealed a fascinating discovery about the pyramids of Egypt. Researchers suggest that the Step Pyramid of Djoser may have been built using a sophisticated internal hydraulic system. According to the research, a complex network of canals and dams allowed the ancient Egyptians to lift stone blocks weighing up to 100 tons, offering a new perspective on the advanced engineering of this civilization.
Finally, the world of Peruvian entertainment also generated news of interest. Presenter Yaco Eskenazi spoke about the international success of Nicola Porcella, admitting that he feels in debt for not having supported him more during his most difficult moments. At the same time, model Luciana Fuster publicly defended herself against criticism received on social media after her participation in a casting for the Victoria’s Secret brand, asking users not to judge her gestures and expressions negatively.
