Dispute over Nord Stream: Poland opposes return to Russian gas pipelines
For years, Poland has consistently opposed the Nord Stream gas pipeline projects. This infrastructure bypasses the territory of Poland and Ukraine, transporting Russian gas directly to Germany. This topic has returned to public debate following suggestions of the possibility of resuming cooperation in this area.
Poland's Minister of Energy firmly criticized a far-right leader who advocated for restoring the operation of these pipelines. In the opinion of Polish government representatives, any attempts to reactivate Nord Stream are unacceptable and harmful to the energy security of the entire region.
According to Polish authorities, the Russian pipelines were from the beginning a political tool, not just an economic one. Their main goal was to weaken the transit position of Poland and Ukraine, which in the current geopolitical situation is considered a threat to the stability of Central and Eastern Europe.
Discussion on this subject has sparked strong emotions in Polish politics. The Ministry of Energy emphasizes that Poland will continue to strive for full independence from Russian energy resources, while simultaneously supporting the diversification of gas supplies from other directions, such as Norway or LNG terminals.
This matter shows how important energy security remains for Poland in the face of ongoing international challenges. The government declares that it will not change its position on this issue, treating the protection of national interests as a priority in foreign policy.
