Poland plans to introduce a new tax for tech giants
The Ministry of Digital Affairs has published a draft of new regulations that propose the introduction of a special tax for the largest global technology companies operating in Poland. According to the proposal, these corporations would pay a 3 percent tax on their revenue generated within our country.
The goal of this initiative is to fairly tax digital giants, which often benefit from Poland's infrastructure and market while paying relatively low income taxes. The government argues that the new regulations will level the playing field between international corporations and local businesses operating in the digital sector.
The draft bill is currently in the consultation stage. Experts point out that similar solutions are also being implemented in other European Union countries, aiming to tighten the tax system in the era of the digital economy. Revenue from the new tax would go into the state budget and be allocated to the further development of Poland's digital infrastructure.
Representatives of the technology industry believe that the new law could affect the costs of digital services for Polish consumers. However, the Ministry emphasizes that ensuring fair competition in the market is key. The final shape of the bill and the date of its entry into force will be determined after the conclusion of the public debate and the analysis of submitted comments.
