Poland plans to introduce a new digital tax for tech giants
The Ministry of Digital Affairs has published a draft of new regulations aimed at introducing a digital tax in Poland. According to the proposal, the largest global technology companies operating in the Polish market will be required to pay a 3% tax on their revenue.
The new law is intended primarily for the largest corporations that generate significant profits in Poland by leveraging local infrastructure and a user base. The government argues that introducing this levy will allow for a fairer tax settlement for companies that have previously often avoided paying high rates in the countries where they provide their services.
The draft bill is currently in the consultation phase. Experts point out that the introduction of such a solution could affect the way major corporations conduct business in our region. Similar tax solutions are already in use or planned in many other European Union countries, aiming to harmonize taxation rules for the digital economy.
The Ministry of Digital Affairs emphasizes that the goal of these changes is not only to increase state budget revenues but also to level the playing field for local entrepreneurs. Thanks to the new regulations, competition in the digital market is expected to become more transparent and fair for all participants.
The final shape of the act and the date of its entry into force depend on the results of ongoing legislative work. Market observers believe that the debate over this project will be one of the key topics in Polish economic policy in the coming months.
