Poland plans to introduce a new digital tax for tech giants
The Ministry of Digital Affairs has published a draft of new regulations aimed at introducing a digital tax in Poland. According to the proposal, the world's largest technology companies operating in the Polish market will be required to pay a levy of 3% on their revenues.
The goal of this solution is to level the playing field between international corporations and local businesses. Currently, many large tech companies pay relatively low taxes in Poland, despite generating very high profits from advertising and digital services available to Polish users.
The draft bill assumes that the new tax will only cover the largest entities whose global revenues exceed specific financial thresholds. As a result, smaller tech companies and Polish start-ups will not feel the negative effects of these changes and will be able to continue developing their operations in the market.
Experts point out that introducing such a solution is consistent with trends observed in other European Union countries. Many member states have previously decided to take similar steps to ensure fair taxation of the digital sector, which has been developing extremely dynamically in recent years.
Currently, the draft is at the consultation stage, during which its potential effects on the economy are being analyzed. If the regulations are adopted, the new law could come into force in the near future, which would be a significant change in the Polish tax system.
