New fuel regulations: Windfall tax and lower VAT

President Karol Nawrocki has signed a new law introducing a windfall tax on fuel companies. This decision is the government's response to the current situation in the energy market and the rising fuel prices felt by all drivers in Poland.

The most important element of the new regulations is the imposition of a special tax on fuel companies that have achieved exceptionally high profits recently. The funds raised from this are to be allocated to supporting the state budget and measures aimed at stabilizing energy prices.

At the same time, the government has decided to significantly reduce the VAT rate on fuel. It will be reduced from the current 23% to 8%. This change is intended to directly lower refueling costs for individual drivers and transport entrepreneurs.

Experts point out that combining these two actions—taxing large companies and providing tax relief for consumers—is an attempt to combat inflation. The government hopes that lower prices at gas stations will help curb the rise in prices of other goods and services across the country.

The new regulations will come into force in the near future. Drivers in Poland can expect to see the first price changes at gas stations soon, which should bring relief to household budgets in the face of rising living costs.
