Scientists from Warsaw investigate the link between gut microbiota and food allergies
An increasing number of people around the world, including in Poland, are struggling with the problem of food allergies. Scientists from the Medical University of Warsaw and experts from the LUX MED medical network have launched joint research to better understand the causes of this phenomenon. The main goal of their work is to analyze the impact of gut microbiota on the development of allergic reactions in patients.
Gut microbiota consists of billions of microorganisms that live in our digestive system. Researchers suggest that the composition of these bacteria is crucial for the proper functioning of the immune system. If the balance in the gut is disturbed, the body may begin to react incorrectly to certain nutrients, which leads to the development of allergies.
This problem is currently considered one of the most important challenges for public health. In recent years, doctors have observed a clear increase in the number of patients diagnosed with hypersensitivity to common food products. Understanding the mechanisms occurring in the gut may help in developing new treatment methods and more effective prevention.
Collaboration between academia and medical facilities in Warsaw allows for large-scale research. Thanks to modern diagnostic methods, experts hope to find answers to the question of how diet and lifestyle affect our "good" bacteria. The results of this work may in the future change the way we treat allergies in children and adults in Poland.
