Violent storms over Poland: over 1,600 fire department interventions
Last Sunday, a wave of violent storms swept across Poland, causing serious disruptions in many regions of the country. Emergency services worked throughout the day to clear the aftermath of strong winds and torrential rains that hit almost every province.
The State Fire Service reported that in just one day, firefighters had to intervene more than 1,600 times. Most of the reports concerned fallen trees that blocked local and national roads, hindering traffic and threatening the safety of drivers.
Strong winds also damaged the roofs of many residential and farm buildings. In some places, power lines were downed, causing power outages for thousands of customers. Technical crews worked throughout the night to restore power in the most affected towns.
Fortunately, despite the large scale of material damage, there have been no reports of fatalities. However, meteorological services warn that unstable weather may persist for some time, so they are appealing to residents to exercise extreme caution when leaving their homes.
The situation in the country is currently being monitored by the relevant emergency services. Authorities remind citizens to call the 112 emergency number immediately in case of danger and to avoid parking cars under trees or near unstable structures.
