Minister of Sport demands resignation of the President of the Polish Olympic Committee
The Minister of Sport and Tourism, Sławomir Nitras, has publicly called on the President of the Polish Olympic Committee (PKOl), Radosław Piesiewicz, to step down from his position. This decision is the result of growing controversy surrounding the committee's financial activities and the way the organization has been managed in recent months.
The main cause of the conflict is the lack of clarity regarding PKOl's expenditures and its ties to the cryptocurrency sector. The Ministry of Sport accuses the committee's leadership of a lack of transparency in accounting for public funds that were intended to support Polish athletes preparing for the Olympic Games in Paris. The matter is highly contentious, as it involves funds originating from the state budget and state-owned companies.
The situation is further complicated by media reports regarding high salaries within the PKOl board and costly trips by officials to sporting events. Minister Nitras emphasized that a sports organization should be managed honestly and that the current leadership has lost the trust of the public. In response to these accusations, PKOl representatives claim that all financial activities were in accordance with the law and the organization's statutes.
An audit is currently underway at the PKOl headquarters to clarify how funds were spent over the past year. The Ministry has announced that if irregularities are confirmed, severe legal consequences will follow. This case could lead to profound changes in the way professional sports are financed in Poland.
The future of Radosław Piesiewicz as President of PKOl remains uncertain. Many sports experts believe that a thorough reform of the committee's structures is necessary to restore the organization's image in the eyes of fans and athletes.
