Poland scrambled fighter jets in response to attack on Ukraine
On Sunday night into Monday, the Polish Operational Command of the Armed Forces decided to scramble fighter jets to secure Polish airspace. This decision was a direct response to a massive missile and drone attack carried out by Russia on the territory of western Ukraine.
The Polish military reported that both Polish and allied aircraft were operating in the air. The goal of these actions was to ensure safety in areas bordering the regions affected by the Russian strikes. The situation was monitored by radar systems throughout the duration of the threat.
Russian attacks in the western part of Ukraine, including the Lviv region, have been regularly recorded since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. Due to the proximity of the border with Poland, every such strike involves a heightened state of readiness for Polish services, which must be prepared for a potential violation of Polish airspace by drones or missiles.
After the operation concluded and the threat subsided, the Polish fighter jets returned to their bases, and air defense systems returned to standard operating mode. The Command emphasized that the Polish military is continuously analyzing the situation beyond the eastern border and remains in full readiness to protect the country's territory.
Authorities are appealing to residents of border areas to remain calm. The situation in the region remains tense, and Polish services assure that national security is a priority in the face of the ongoing conflict among our neighbors.
