E-cigarettes a threat to children: Experts call for stricter regulations
British pediatricians are sounding the alarm over the growing popularity of e-cigarettes among minors. Doctors warn that the colorful packaging and fruity flavors of nicotine products are intentionally designed to attract the attention of children and adolescents, leading to rapid nicotine addiction at a young age.
According to specialists, e-cigarettes are not a safe alternative to traditional tobacco products. The long-term effects of inhaling vapors from these devices on a developing body are still being studied; however, negative impacts on the respiratory system and the concentration of young users are already being observed.
This problem is becoming increasingly visible in other European countries as well, including Poland, where e-cigarettes are easily available in stores. Experts emphasize the need to introduce stricter legal regulations that would limit the sale of products with aromas attractive to children and ban the use of flashy packaging.
Doctors are also appealing to parents and teachers to be more vigilant. Education on the dangers of e-cigarette use should become a permanent element of conversations at home and preventive programs in schools to effectively protect the health of the younger generation.
The fight against addiction among children requires the cooperation of politicians, manufacturers, and guardians. Only by limiting the availability and appeal of these devices can we realistically reduce the number of young people who begin their journey with nicotine.
