Mental health of young mothers in Poland: A new research project
In Poland, there is increasing discussion about the challenges women face after giving birth. Experts point out that the postpartum period is a time not only of joy but also of immense psychological burden, which is often downplayed by society.
The University of Gdańsk has initiated an important research project titled "Before the Fall: Maternal Mental Health and Suicide in Poland." The goal of this initiative is to thoroughly examine the problem of mental health crises that young mothers in our country struggle with.
Dr. hab. Magdalena Chrzan-Dętkoś, who is leading the research, emphasizes that suicidal thoughts and attempts represent the most serious manifestation of mental health crises during this period. The project aims to help understand the causes of these states and indicate how to more effectively support women in difficult situations.
The research results may contribute to changing the perinatal care system in Poland. Specialists hope that through better diagnostics and a faster response from those around them, many tragedies in Polish families can be prevented.
Understanding the issue of maternal mental health is crucial for ensuring the safety of both women and their children. The University of Gdańsk project represents an important step toward improving psychological care standards in Poland.
